In this use case, we highlight Kim De Young, creator of Choice Mapping Mastery, a guided journey for self-discovery, decision-making, and intentional living. Originally launched as a live cohort program, Kim has since transformed it into both a self-paced experience and a foundational tool for professionals in coaching and therapy.
Kim De Young is a choice coach, facilitator, and author of The Book of Choice. After publishing her book, she wanted to bring the concept of choice mapping to life in a more immersive, practice-based program.
She initially launched a beta cohort of Choice Mapping Mastery in late 2023. While the experience was powerful, it wasn’t sustainable: the live calls were packed with teaching, leaving little space for deeper group exploration.
That’s when Kim turned to Sutra. She had first discovered the platform as a participant in another program and was drawn to its flexible structure and focus on reflective learning.
She realized it was the perfect fit for what she envisioned: a platform where she could host structured, pre-recorded content and use live sessions as spaces for participants to go deeper, reflect, and uncover insights in real time.
Listen to Kim share this part of her journey:
Participants inside Choice Mapping Mastery explore one type of decision each week (professional, personal, past, future) through a combination of structured self-paced content and live facilitation.
Each module guided participants through lessons with short videos lessons, written reflections, and optional deeper explorations
Each module culminated in a live “Choice Mapping Lab”—a group session designed to unpack personal insights together
Reflection is central: to progress through the content participants are required to complete an Essential Reflection within each lesson
“Choice Mapping Mastery is a self-discovery tool. It's a journey for the user to explore themselves—and reflections were a perfect fit for that.” — Kim DeYoung
The original structure ran over 6 weeks, with new modules released on fixed dates.
Key features used included:
Use of discussion prompts feature for self-reflection
Use of automations within each lesson (each lesson is a subspace) triggered by “Mark Complete”to unlock next lessons
Release of content through the wait condition feature
After running the live version three times, Kim duplicated the program into a standalone self-study format.
Key adjustment:
Automation for each module so the content is released every 7 days per user
“Some people only showed up live. Others only used the pre-recorded content. Creating a flexible format that serves both made it scalable.” — Kim DeYoung
